Recent Positive Psychology research has suggested that people who are more grateful have higher levels of well-being. Grateful people are happier, less depressed, less stressed, and more satisfied with their lives and social relationships.
There are many habits we can put into place to ensure we feel Gratitude. Simply making an effort to be aware of the people, situations, and things for which we're thankful can make a big difference. I like to write in my Gratitude Journal daily (well, most days) . I write down five things each day that I'm thankful for. Usually they're specific to that day (e.g. I had a walk with a good friend this morning) but sometimes they're more general (e.g. I'm thankful that my family is healthy).
And now I'm starting "Thankful Thursdays". This is an opportunity to think of someone you'd like to thank, share it with all of us in the comments (unless it's private) and then tell that person the specific reasons you'd like to thank them.
.
Who would you like to thank today?
I'm going to thank my mom for helping to get my kids up in the mornings. I am really not a morning person (which she knows very well from trying to drag me out of bed for school on time when I was a teenager) and I don't drink coffee, so I'm basically useless until about 9am. It takes all my focus and energy to sit and nurse my daughter while I foggily read my emails on my iPad each morning. Meanwhile (the mornings my mom's around), she gets my son up, potties him, and gets him started on breakfast. Plus, if there's somewhere we need to be, she keeps me on schedule and helps us all get out the door on time (and often comes with us too)! Yes, I know... I'm very spoiled. Which is why I thank my mom constantly. But I still don't feel like I do it enough!
So, now it's your turn... tell us in the comments below. Who are you thanking today? Be specific with the reasons (if they're not private). And don't forget to call them and tell them... posting it here isn't enough!
